Peditrol Guide

One of the reasons why Peditrol is the top choice for leading medical specialists in endourology is less risk of complications during ureteroscopy including reduction in sustained renal intrapelvic pressure and reduced risk of pyelo-venous backflow, sepsis, pelvic pain and SIRS.

What is it ?

Peditrol, the medical device that provides a safer method of irrigation during ureteroscopy allowing the speed and force of bolus delivery to remain under the constant control of the surgeon.

Having recognized the very low compliance of the human kidney as well as the limitation of fluid drainage from the renal pelvis, we designed a device that limits the irrigation bolus size, while avoiding forced continuous irrigation, and limiting the overall amount of fluid used during the procedure.

Advantages of Peditrol

Low Volume

The device limits the irrigation bolus size to below 2.7ml and limits the overall amount of fluid used during the procedure. Up to 50% less fluid used resulting in lower volume requiring drainage.

Foot Control

No need for assistance as the surgeon controls irrigation using his foot. Less chance of stone migration during surgery thanks to instant and precise fluid displacement.

Less Complications

Reduction in sustained renal intrapelvic pressure. Reduced risk of pyelo-tubular and pyelo-venous backflow, and reduced risk of oedema, sepsis, pelvic pain and SIRS.

How it Works

Peditrol consists of a robust Foot Pump (URO 002 or URO 003) and a sterile, single-use disposable unit (URO 041). The set is mounted into the pump and operated by foot. The pump is equipped with two locating nests to admit the disposable set: the top one for mounting manifold in a foot plate and a second one in the base plate to accept the syringe plunger. The syringe is connected to a tubing set with valves securing one-way flow of the irrigation fluid.

Why Peditrol

Irrigation during ureteroscopy is a fine balancing act. Extremely low flow may affect the irrigation efficiency whereas high flow may lead to excessive intrarenal pressure and thus may induce a series of complications.

Striking the perfect balance is easy with Peditrol, which is responsive and sensitive enough to displace a range of flows - from a single drop to controlled high flow.

Dual Flow

From drop by drop to high flow - Peditrol, is capable of producing dual flow

  • Continuous background flow regulated by hydrostatic pressure (proportionate to the height of the bag of fluid above the level of the patient)

  • Accelerated flow dependent on the force applied by the urologist to the foot pedal

And the best news is that volume displacement of a single bolus delivered amounts to 2.7ml which is safest among all irrigation devices.
