Syphon - The Next Generation UAS

Several years in the making, the Syphon features an attachable syphoning box that enhances drainage of irrigation fluid from the kidney and prevents build up of excessive intrarenal pressure during ureterorenoscopy.

Syphon Access Sheath

Syphon performs like a traditional ureteric access sheath (UAS) with the added benefit of an extra syphoning function. From the Greek word Síphōn, that refers to a tube in an inverted ‘U’-shape, which causes fluid to flow upward, above the surface of a reservoir, with no pump, but powered by the flow through the tube with the pull of gravity.

The drainage tubing of Syphon extends below the level of the kidney, making outflow more effective due to an active, yet gentle suctioning action. Compared to a traditional UAS, the position of the outlet of Syphon below the kidney level results in significant reduction in intrarenal pressure.

The syphoning box interacts with the funnel to create a stone catchment chamber. The stones and small fragments can be removed by disconnecting the syphoning box from the funnel.
