Fourie Bag

Fourie Bag

The Fourie Safety System is a fluid-collecting bag designed to support continuous bladder irrigation. It’s the only system that truly prevents distention of the bladder during continuous irrigation.

The differentiating feature is a smartly concealed overflow device which triggers once the bag is full - preventing distention of the bladder, and allowing time for the bag to be replaced.

The Fourie Bag is offered with, or without, an agitator and uses specially profiled drainage tubing to prevent blockages, even when fully kinked. The bag has a hydrophobic vent which allows for air to escape, reducing the chance of an airlock inside the bag.

A large percentage of patients undergoing continuous bladder irrigation experience acute bladder distension. This could be because the urinary collecting system is not emptied on time or a clot, or another foreign body, is impairing the drainage of fluid into the bag.

Bladder distension is very painful for the patient and it can often reduce, or even arrest, irrigation with resultant intravesical clot formation.

The Fourie's overflow device activates when the pressure in the bag reaches values close to 25cm H20. A compliant pouch is ejected from a small box and, like a water balloon, can collect and hold a large amount of fluid, protecting the bladder from distention.

The overflow pouch is not an additional collecting device but the equivalent of airbag in a motor vehicle, preventing injury when an accident has happened.
